The Right Place and Montcalm Economic Alliance assists with local manufacturing expansion

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. (10/28/15)  – Regional economic development organization The Right Place, Inc.  and Montcalm Economic Alliance, along with its state and local partners in Montcalm County and the Village of Lakeview, today announced that family-owned Byrne Electrical Specialists will expand its operations in the Village of Lakeview, investing $250,000 and adding 32 new jobs.

The company will construct a new manufacturing facility, expanding their capacity of light manufacturing by adding 15,000 sq. ft. The new state-of-the-art manufacturing and office space will be located along the shores of Tamarack Lake, formerly used as a sawmill and later as a pickle processing facility.

“This expansion is a big win for everyone involved,” said Kathy Jo VanderLaan, Business Development Coordinator, The Right Place, Inc. “Not only will it bring 32 new jobs to the Village of Lakeview, but we are also redeveloping and putting back into use an existing industrial site in the community.”

The development project was part of a land swap agreement with the Village of Lakeview, KLM Investments LLC, and Pickle Dock LLC. KLM deeded approximately 8.8 acres of land along Tamarack Lake to the Village of Lakeview in exchange for a large island property located in the middle of the lake. The Village of Lakeview then sold the acreage to Pickle Dock LLC to enable the development of the site.

“The Village of Lakeview works hard to create an environment where people can be successful, and we are thrilled to be welcoming Byrne Electrical Specialists to our community,” said Jake Eckholm, Manager, Village of Lakeview & City of Stanton. “The impact they will create through new investment and job opportunities for our citizens will create a lasting positive effect. The folks at Byrne have already proven to be great partners to Lakeview, we can't wait to see what they do once they are up and running in town.”

This expansion marks the third major economic development announcement since the Montcalm Economic Alliance and The Right Place established a formal contract for services in 2014.

“We are extremely pleased with the progress that has already been made in Montcalm through this new relationship,” said Rob Spohr, Vice President of Student and Academic Affairs, Montcalm Community College and Current Montcalm Economic Alliance Board President. “We understand that economic development is a marathon, not a sprint. But, the results we are already experiencing are tremendous.”

“The Right Place is committed to growing West Michigan’s regional economy,” said Richard Breon, President and CEO, Spectrum Health and Current Board Chair for The Right Place, Inc. “It is vital that we continue to create jobs and spur investment throughout our region in addition to the urban core.”

With this latest economic development project, The Right Place, working with its local and state partners, has generated $164.8 million in capital investment and assisted in the creation of 1,005 jobs in West Michigan in 2015.
