The Right Place and Newaygo County Economic Development Office Launch New Strategic Partnership for Regional Economic Growth

GRAND RAPIDS, MICH. (10/15/15) The Newaygo County Economic Development Office (NCEDO) has signed a new, three-year service contract with The Right Place, Inc. to provide direct economic development services to the Newaygo County business community.

Newaygo Economic DevelopmentThe new contract replaces an existing contract NCEDO has maintained with The Right Place for nine years. During that time, The Right Place provided assistance to NCEDO on an as needed basis.  Under the terms of the new contract, the NCEDO board and stakeholders plan to leverage The Right Place’s extensive business retention, expansion, and attraction services to provide a higher level of direct assistance to Newaygo County’s major employers.

“We are excited about this new arrangement,” said Mary Shafer, NCEDO Board President.  “When the Executive Director position became vacant, the timing was right to pursue this relationship.  The Right Place can provide a depth of services and expertise that we just cannot touch and we are looking forward to this collaboration.”

The Right Place will work with NCEDO to add an additional business development professional to The Right Place’s current economic development team. This new team member will work closely with both groups but will maintain their office in Newaygo County.

“To compete in today’s global marketplace, we must work together as an economic region and increase collaboration among our communities,” said Birgit Klohs, President and CEO, The Right Place, “We are already witnessing the value of this collaborative approach in other neighboring counties, and we look forward to building on those achievements in Newaygo County.”

A formal contract signing event is currently planned for November with members of both organizations present. Details of the event will be released in the coming weeks.

“The Right Place’s efforts to promote regional collaboration and partnerships, like Newaygo, will be critical to the long-term economic success of West Michigan,” said Rick Breon, President and CEO, Spectrum Health and Board Chair for The Right Place. “Only by working together as a collaborative region, will West Michigan continue to grow and prosper.”
